The Ruth First Jeppe Fiesta will be staged for the third year running at the Linder Auditorium at 7:30 pm on Friday 30 August. This fund raising concert is a varied musical celebration, with something for everyone, and is dedicated to Jeppe alumna, Ruth First, in aid of the Foundation created in her memory which currently sponsors 56 girls at Jeppe High School for Girls.
The programme ranges from the first movement of Grieg’s famous Piano Concerto in A minor to a My Fair Lady medley of hits, with everything in between including the Can Can, repertoire from the Jeppe Girls Choir (who are World Choir Games gold medallists) and Highland Cathedral – all conducted by everyone’s favourite maestro Richard Cock!
A special feature this year is the premiere of a commissioned work – Cantate for female voices – in celebration of the Jeppe High School Girls Centenary by SA Composer Franco Prinsloo.
Featuring pianist Elize Kruger, violinist Mia Björkman-Sun, soloists Timothy Moloi and Dominique Deysel, the Jeppe Pipe Band, Jeppe Girls Choir and Orchestra conducted by Johan Bester and Andrew Pallett and the Jeppe Hlabelela and Marimba ensembles – all accompanied by the Johannesburg Festival Orchestra.
Celebrity Jeppe Old Girl Carolyn Steyn of the 67 Blankets for Mandela Campaign will also make a guest appearance in the Toy Symphony.
